Preqin Quarterly Update: Q1 2022 Webinar
The first quarter of 2022 was eventful for financial markets. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine added to market volatility and uncertainty. Sanctions on Russia caused a surge in energy, food and metal prices, and inflation is only expected to accelerate.

The impact of rising interest rates and geopolitical risks may have moderated private equity and venture capital fundraising growth and slowed deal activity in 1Q2022. Real estate activity has slowed as well, with just $30bn raised in the quarter.

However, certain segments of private markets remained resilient. In private debt, 2022 is off to a strong start, with 22 funds raising $33bn over the first quarter of the year. Infrastructure saw its most active fundraising quarter to date, driven by mega fund activity. Natural resources AUM hit $1.14tn as of September 2021, driven mostly by dry powder.

With such uncertainty in the financial markets, how do we foresee risk-adjusted returns to be like? What challenges will be top of mind for private capital markets?

To coincide with the launch of our Preqin Quarterly Updates Q1 2022, we will highlight key factors that will have an integral impact on private capital and hedge funds in a Keynote Presentation on May 12, 2022, at 10am.
